Charters Towers is a city located in North Queensland, Australia. It is located approximately 130 kilometers inland from the coast and around 130 km south west of the city of Townsville. Charters Towers was originally a gold-mining town and was established in the late 19th century, during a gold rush. Today, Charters Towers is a regional center, known for its rich history, heritage architecture and has a population of around 8500. The city has a significant historic precinct, which includes many well-preserved buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries. and also has other prominent heritage sites such as the Venus Gold Battery.
